I’m a big fan of learning from others and I often listen to TED talks from inspirational speakers. One video I’d recommend you watching if you’re serious about self-development is called, “success leaves clues” by Dan Peña.It’s confronting, he doesn’t sugar coat things but instead holds a mirror up, looking at what the greatest entrepreneurs over the last decade all have in common and makes us look at whether we really have these character traits ourselves. That short sound bite: success leaves clues, has sat at the forefront of my mind ever since, and has made me think about how we can apply those key clues as to what creates success, in our own lives.Let’s take a look at some key things successful people do to get to that level and I’d invite you to think about whether you can incorporate any of them into your own goal driven journey.
Successful people have high self-esteem, and they believe in themselves and their goals. Think about Elon Musk, Warren Buffet, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates, each of them kept going even when others doubted them. In today’s world where we’re constantly online and comparing ourselves to other people, having high self esteem is a challenge. Whilst many thought leaders believe our self-esteem is innate and cannot be learned, there are ways we can improve it and enhance how we view ourselves. This can be done not only by prioritising self-awareness and personal development but also changing our habits to help us develop a more positive mindset.
Investing in our personal development does exactly what it says on the tin, it allows us to improve our knowledge, mindset and approach to life. Many people think they’re prioritising personal development and may listen to an inspirational podcast or read a book but actually putting the work in and applying their learnings to life is much harder. Truly developing means making changes and tracking the progress of those changes. This is what makes successful people different, they don’t just listen or take in the information, but they act on it and use it to take them closer to their goals.
One of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves is to surround ourselves by people who are more successful than us. They are a living, walking entity of experience that we can learn from! When thinking about where you want to be in the next 5 or 10 years, ask yourself where you can access someone who has been there and bought the t-shirt and then make your way into that crowd! This is one of the best parts about our business. We connect people who are just starting out with others who are hitting major milestone and we share our knowledge, we learn from each other and we inspire each other. Remember: success leaves clues, so seek them out!
Successful people know that health comes first. What’s the point in earning a substantial amount of money if you’re not capable of enjoying the benefits? What’s the point in travelling to a beautiful destination if you’re not fit enough to explore it? Investing in our mental and physical wellbeing will ensure that we’re not running ourselves into the ground to reach our goals but instead will be in a position to reap the rewards once we hit those targets! Eating healthy, prioritising sleep and exercising are all major factors in ensuring we’re physically and mentally strong enough to tackle any challenges that may arise on our journey to success.
Successful people are results driven and so this means tracking their progress and continuously enhancing their goals, so they never plateau. Whether you’re working on a personal goal for example running a marathon or a professional goal like getting a promotion. Start by breaking your goal down into achievable smaller milestones, next seek out information that will help you to get there whether that’s online, books or working with a mentor. Knowledge is power! Then track your progress every step of the way. If you hit a set back (which you likely will), consider what you can learn from it and apply it to your journey. Monitoring progress and having self-awareness will increase the chances of you hitting your goals significantly. Are you embodying these habits? Are there ways you can apply them to your life to help you become more successful? Our company offers regular training and personal development opportunities and as a team we’re always sharing best practise and supporting each other to be the best versions of ourselves.Want to know more?
