The last few months have been pretty jam packed with work events, from the races at Epson, to open days across the country, conferences as many motivation sessions.I took a moment at one of our bigger events recently to step back and observe everyone and I realised how fortunate I am to be surrounded by so many like-minded people. It got me thinking about the importance of being selective over the people we choose to surround ourselves with and yes, it is a choice. Are you surrounding yourself with the dreamers, the doers, the thinkers and the cheerleaders or are do you find yourself with the energy-drainers, the complainers and the one’s who say they can’t?The energy we get from those around us has a huge influence on our mindset and our beliefs not just about the world but also about ourselves.Being around a positive group of people who share similar goals and interests can be the single greatest catalyst to help you “make it” and that’s why I believe we do so well as a team.Every single person in the team has their own story to tell a unique reason that drives them to want to succeed. We are passionate about getting to the heart of those reasons, digging down to the why and then supporting each other in our personal goals and the wider business goals. In the most challenging moments, having positive people around you who understand your drive and are willing to lift you up and remind you of your goals will make a huge difference to how you respond to the situation.By contrast, being influenced by people with a negative mindset, who aren’t willing to make changes in order to see a difference in their lives and who are stuck in the past will bring you down.Remind yourself that you do have a choice.Being selective about the people you surround yourself with doesn’t make you a bad person, it means you’re making yourself your priority! So where can you find like-minded, positive people? My advice would be to start by identifying your values and your goals. Once you’ve worked out your why, you can figure out where people who share similar values might congregate.Self-development is usually a common trait of ambitious people so consider taking part in some networking events or seminars.Seek out online communities as well as in person events and the more you start engaging with new people, the easier it will become. One of the brilliant things of our events is the sheer size of them, often hundreds of people all in the same room, sharing a similar approach to our goals and a willingness to listen and learn from one another.Energy is contagious, so choose your tribe carefully to ensure you only catch positive energy!
